These are tough times, not only for cyclists, but for all. Bike racing has been postponed or outright cancelled for the foreseeable future. As cyclists tend to be a competitive bunch, the need for a safe, fun, open to all
It is with this in mind that the inaugural Packfiller Classic Stage Race is proposed. A do it yourself, multi stage, solo (yet competitive through online based results tracking), race that allows riders to participate anywhere in the world.
One week, four stages (omnium or stage race format), daily prizes, video and audio highlights and interviews, all from the security and convenience of your own local rides and computer.
To participate, all riders need to:
- Join the Packfiller Racing Strava group. https://www.strava.com/clubs/packfillerracing
- Register for the event (entry is free), through FIT FOR HOPE, https://www.fitforhope.com/packfillerclassic and sign the waiver.
- Plan your routes according to the daily stage requirement minimums.
- RIDE the stages.
- Upload your results to the Strava Group, using the proper title ("Packfiller Classic 2020 Stage (number)) before the posted deadline.
- Compare your times to friends, enemies, and brag away (or make up brilliant excuses).
- Check the website daily for free prize drawings, video highlights, podcasts, and fun.
- Stay safe, participate ALONE, and wash your hands.
Event details!
- Stage 1: Prologue. For stage one, riders need to complete a route of their choosing that allows them to ride 500 feet of elevation gain as quickly as possible. Riders must start at a stand, with one foot on the ground. Any bicycle style is allowed, with any additional aerodynamic additions allowed. No ebikes, motor assist, or drafting allowed. Stage one begins the Classic, and must be completed first in the order to qualify for stage race participation.
- Stage 2: Better Than Remdesivir Road Race. For stage 2, things head out to the open road. Well, more open than stage one. Riders must complete a circuit route that meets the minimum distance requirement for your category. Try for a loop. Don't worry if it isn't a perfect loop. Climbing elevations are optional, for for every 500 feet of climbing, one minute is removed from your finish time (rounded to the nearest 500). Rides must be completed solo. No ebikes, motor assist, or drafting allowed. Stage 2 must be completed after the prologue, and before stage 3 to qualify for the stage race.(PLEASE INDICATE YOUR CATEGORY IN YOUR STRAVA ENTRY)
1. A Category - 50 miles
2. B Category - 30 miles
3. C Category - 20 miles
- Stage 3: Time Alone Time Trial. Stage 3 is a MERCKX style time trial. No aerodynamic additions may be made to your bicycle. Course must be a 40 Kilometer, OUT AND BACK route. No ebikes, motor assist, or drafting allowed. Riders must start at a full stop, with one foot on the ground, and finish at the same place. Stage 2 must be completed after stage 2 and before stage 4 for stage race participation. (IF YOU ONLY HAVE A TT BIKE (HI TRIATHLETES) PLEASE INDICATE "ON TT" IN YOUR STRAVA UPLOAD.
- Stage 4: COVID SUCKS Climb, or the “Mini Everest” Challenge. For the final stage, riders must find a route that allows them to SAFELY climb one tenth of Mt. Everest, or 2,900 feet in elevation. Stage 4 must be completed after stage 3 to qualify for stage race participation.
Rules
- This is supposed to be fun. There is, truly, nothing on the line here. All riders must not be assholes. Don’t break traffic laws. Don’t yell at or endanger others with your riding.
- All rides are on the honor code. If you choose to cheat, you’re an asshole, and will be flogged accordingly.
- Rides must be posted to the Strava group by midnight of the deadline dates.
- If it isn’t on Strava, it didn’t happen.
- All rides must be completed solo. No group efforts. Stay the hell away from each other.
- Each stage must be completed within the week set for the event. If you are planning to participate in the full stage race, rides must be completed within 24 hours of each other. If
you are cherry picking stages, you may ride any time within the week.

FUN PHOTO CHALLENGE - For any cool, funny, or plain out badass photo posted during the event with the hashtag #packfillerclassic will be open to time bonuses based upon how we here at the show deem them worthy. Not to mention, the best pic will receive a prize.
BEST VOICEMAIL EXCUSE - Call the studio line at (509) 315-1142 and give us your best post stage excuse. Tell a story (keep it under 1:00). If we laugh, you’re in for the prize.
